before you speak - the 3 questions

Planning what you say in almost any situation can be boiled down to these 3 fast-fix questions.
They work for one on one meetings as well as the largest keynote.
Question 1: What do you really want to do ?
Think of it like this.
The people you are talking to are at point A and you need to get them to point B.
This helps you decide:
i. What it is exactly that you want to achieve.
ii. Your approach to the communication.
iii. The content, style and message of what you say.
· I want to agree future working arrangements
· I want him to understand how my team works
· I want to reduce tension
Question 2: What do you want them to say about you?
People normally don't think about this but you are making an impression every time you
speak to anyone else - particularly a group of people.
For example do you want to be seen as approachable, capable, cool, dynamic ......
Question 3. What is on their minds?
Think of their point of view and concerns, feelings and assumptions when you plan. Everyone has a different point of view of things and this is the key to good communication,
